Qualified Educator Approval Process
Version 1.0 beta - Trial Period - From July 2025
Note: This document uses generic masculine pronouns for simplicity. All statements apply equally to people of all genders. The association expressly welcomes and encourages applications from all qualified candidates.
1. Purpose and Objectives
1.1 Mission Statement
To become a Qualified Educator, you’ll need to meet specific prerequisites that ensure you’re fully prepared for your educational role. These requirements ensure that you possess both the teaching skills and in-depth content knowledge necessary to deliver exceptional training.
1.2 Quality Assurance
Meeting all prerequisites before applying demonstrates your readiness and maintains the high standards of our educator certification programme. This thorough preparation benefits both you and your future students.
2. Core Prerequisites for Qualified Educator Status
2.1 Ethical Standards
You must maintain a clean ethical record with no outstanding complaints for violations of the association’s Code of Ethics.
2.2 Geographic Requirements
You must be a permanent resident of Europe to ensure accessibility and alignment with regional educational standards.
2.3 Certification Requirements
You need to hold the highest-level certification for the specific track containing the modules you want to teach. This certification must be:
- Currently active
- Displayed on your association profile
- Visible for verification purposes
2.4 Mentorship Programme
You’ll work with an Educator Mentor to create your personalised development path. Any currently certified Qualified Educator within the association can serve as your mentor, guiding your qualification journey.
3. Practical Experience Requirements
3.1 Experience in Guiding Others
You must demonstrate substantial experience in guiding others through a learning process. Therefore, you should document:
- Minimum of eight “Guidance Events” (i.e. training, mentoring, or coaching)
- Reaching a minimum of 60 participants in total across all events
This requirement ensures you have sufficient exposure to diverse learning environments and participant needs.
Note: Guidance Events specifically refer to educational activities where you help others learn and develop skills, rather than managing or leading teams in a work context.
Acceptable forms of guidance include:
- Traditional training delivery
- Mentoring relationships and sessions
- Coaching engagements and programmes
- Any combination of these educational approaches
3.2 Subject-Specific Co-Training
As part of your eight guidance events, you must complete at least three co-training events that specifically address the modules you intend to teach. Each co-training event must:
- Last a minimum of 16 hours.
- Be conducted in partnership with existing Qualified Educators.
- Focus on your intended teaching modules.
Your Educator Mentor may recommend additional co-training based on your development needs. These co-training experiences provide hands-on practice and direct feedback from experienced educators.
3.3 Active Participation Standards
During each co-training event, you must personally deliver at least 4 hours of instruction out of the minimum 16-hour event. This ensures you’re actively teaching rather than just observing.
4. Professional Development and Adaptation
4.1 Continuous Improvement
You must demonstrate your commitment to improving your teaching methods through:
- Reviewing and acting on student feedback
- Incorporating co-trainer observations and recommendations
- Engaging in self-reflection and professional growth initiatives
4.2 Practical Experience Integration
You need to show how your professional experience enhances your teaching. Specifically, demonstrate how your real-world work in the disciplines you plan to teach directly influences your teaching approach and benefits your students.
5. Community Engagement
5.1 Active Membership
You must actively contribute to relevant professional communities. This involvement ensures you:
- Stay current with industry developments.
- Maintain professional networks that benefit your students.
- Share knowledge and learn from peers.
6. Curriculum and Materials
6.1 Course Material Preparation
You must provide the most recent version of course materials for all modules you intend to teach.
6.2 Material Ownership and Adaptation
If you’re using materials developed by others, you must demonstrate how you’ve personalised and adapted them to:
- Align with your teaching style.
- Meet your students’ specific needs.
- Reflect your own insights and experience.
The materials should authentically represent your approach to the subject matter.
7. Special Provisions for Existing Certified Educators
7.1 Grandfathering Provisions
If you hold guide-level certifications from selected reputable certification bodies (CST/CSAT/CTC/CEC/PST), you’re qualified to educate towards our certificates that are equivalent to the ones you’re currently authorised to teach in your respective certification bodies.
If you want to educate towards additional certifications beyond your current equivalencies, you’ll need to follow the standard qualification process outlined in point 6 of this document.
7.2 Certification Equivalencies
Here are examples of how existing certifications transfer:
- Professional Scrum Trainers (PSTs) with PSM/PSPO-Training accreditation from Scrum.org can offer QSM-1 and QSPO-1 Beginner Level certifications, including all contained training modules.
- Certified Scrum Trainers (CSTs) with Path to CSP-SM accreditation from Scrum Alliance can offer QSM-1 through QSM-3, including all contained modules.
- Certified Team Coaches (CTCs) or Certified Enterprise Coaches (CECs) with previous CSPO/A-CSPO Educator accreditation from Scrum Alliance can offer QSPO-1 and QSPO-2
7.3 Flexible Qualification Focus
Trainer accreditation is granted on the various qualification modules that compose our certifications. This allows for alternative combinations or specialised delivery models based on the Candidate Educator’s background and expertise.
Note: You can grant one of our certifications only when you’re authorised to teach all the modules for that certification. Any certification typically consist of more than one module. For examples please see the details on our certifications
8. Additional Qualification Requirements
8.1 Advanced Certification Completion
To pursue additional qualifications, you must:
- Complete the QSM-3 qualification (if not already achieved)
- Complete all required modules for your intended teaching areas.
- Ideally, demonstrate completion through achieving the corresponding qualifications.
8.2 Learning Objective Alignment
You must provide a comprehensive mapping document that clearly shows:
- How the learning objectives of the certificate levels you wish to teach…
- …connect to the specific learning objectives in your proposed curriculum…
- …and demonstrate alignment between theoretical knowledge and practical application
This mapping ensures coherent educational delivery and validates your understanding of curriculum structure and learning progression.
